Mike Huckabee for President

November 30, 2007

I would like to officially announce my endorsement of Mike Huckabee for President of the United States.

There is no clearer choice.  Mike Huckabee appears to be a man of deeply held convictions and faith.  In word and deed Mike Huckabee is pro-life, pro-family, and pro-homeschooling.  Conservative, articulate, and likeable... I like Mike.

If you have been waiting to support a Presidential candidate, now is the time to consider carefully and act.  Mike Huckabee needs your support.  Mike Huckabee has shown that he can win Iowa.  Give him your support and contributions so he can win South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Florida too.

Mike Huckabee can beat Hillary Clinton (as well as Barack Obama or John Edwards) next year.

Please pray that God guides Mike Huckabee's steps and his heart.  And pray that Mike Huckabee's victory glorifies God.

Successful Dyslexia

November 29, 2007

The Economist reports thirty percent of American entrepreneurs suffer from dyslexia. That's an amazing statistic. How on earth is that possible? Well, when some students who struggle with reading don't give up no matter how hard it is, they learn to overcome and persevere. And that kind of determination translates well in the business world. So if your children have a hard time academically, realize that by encouraging them to never give up, you're equipping them for success.

Think your child might have a reading disorder? http://www.allprodad.com/playbook/viewarticle.php?art=285

“Teacher of the Year” Sentenced to Two Years for Child Porn

November 20, 2007

Tyrico Tyler, a former middle-school history teacher and "teacher of the year" winner from San Diego, was sentenced to "two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a charge of possessing child pornography" in this AP story.

Go ahead and delude yourself that your kids' public school is a "good school" or has "good teachers".

Just in case you thought this was isolated, check out these recent headlines:

German Government Freezes Homeschool Family’s Bank Accounts

November 16, 2007

Here is another horrible story highlighting the German Government's fascist attitudes about homeschooling from World Net Daily.  Tillman and Dagmar Neubronner have been fighting for the right to homeschool their children.

Government officials determined to stamp out "parallel societies" are adamantly opposed to homeschooling in Germany.

Please pray for the Neubronner family and others who are risking everything to homeschool their children in Germany.

Exceedingly Bad Public Schools

November 16, 2007

World Net Daily has a commentary from Migdia Chinea, a former substitute teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the country's largest public school district:

In my view, the LAUSD is completely corrupt, inept and broken, with many students having serious behavioral problems and disinterested in learning, whereas the teachers remain underpaid and exhausted – some of them just marking time until their retirement and giving out charity passing grades to high school students who can barely write or do math at a third-grade level.

Perhaps the school district where you live is not as exceedingly bad as Los Angeles, but it is bad.  We lived in Irvine, California a few years ago, which is noted for its "excellent" public schools -- our homeschool is better.

From the “Is That Really Homeschooling” Files

November 15, 2007

A story from Washington about a public-school "homeschool" program:

The home-school program in the Edmonds School District lost almost a quarter of its students over the past year in the wake of the district's decision to relocate its alternative high school to the same campus as the home-school program.

Now I know that Washington is one of the last few bastions of communism, but why would these parents need a district run "campus" to "homeschool" their children in the first place?

May I suggest to parents considering homeschooling that you Avoid Government Homeschooling Like the Plague.

Homeschooling Military Family

November 14, 2007

Sometimes people use the stress of normal life as an excuse not to homeschool, but here is a story of the  McDaniels, a military family who homeschools while dad is deployed during a time of war.  If that is not enough, they see themselves "as missionaries to the Navy community".

The New Considering Homeschooling!

November 9, 2007

Considering Homeschooling has retooled and is ready to serve the Christian homeschool community with new vigor!  We will be working closely with Exploring Homeschooling as they continue to be the leader in homeschool evangelism.

If you are interested in starting a homeschool evangelism ministry, please contact Exploring Homeschooling.

To find a local homeschool support group, go to Exploring Homeschooling.

From its founding in 2001, Considering Homeschooling endeavored to reach the new generation of Christian homeschoolers - parents of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers - and bring them into the larger Christian homeschooling movement.  At the same time, our mission was to provide information and resources to encourage and motivate the homeschool community to accept the new generation with open arms.

Circumstances change and so has how we are going about completing our mission.  Considering Homeschooling was founded by Charles and Kathy Lowers as a family ministry.  We wanted to have a single ministry vision and mission for our family.  The ministry grew as our family grew.  Although we are no longer able to provide the personal ministry of homeschool evangelism that made Considering Homeschooling unique in Orange County, California and a model for other organizations nationally, Exploring Homeschooling is continuing that service.

Considering Homeschooling is now a news website and information ministry -- with the same mission we started with -- but here and through our newsletters Charles and Kathy Lowers will keep homeschoolers, homeschool leaders, and those considering homeschooling up to date of the latest homeschool news and issues.

Our hope is to inspire that new generation of Christian homeschoolers and to be about the work of His kingdom.  We pray that God would be glorified and that you would find encouragement in your walk with the Lord and Christian homeschool.
