National book award winners

The National Book Awards were announced this past week. The winners are: For Fiction, Shadow Country by Peter Matthiessen. A reworking of the author’s trilogy that chronicles the legacy of E.J. Watson, a notorious desperado gunned down by his neighbors along the lawless nineteenth-century frontier of the Florida Everglades. For Young People’s Literature, What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell. In 1947, with her jovial stepfather Joe back from the war and family life returning to normal, teenage Evie, smitten by the handsome young ex-GI who seems to have a secret hold on Joe, finds herself caught in a complicated web of lies whose devastating outcome change her life and that of her family forever.
