On location in new york - the donnell library closes

May 30, 2008

New York City is losing one of the most treasured places in the world of children's literature. The Donnell Central Children's room will close today. The children's room was a secret treasure in the middle of one of the most visited areas of New York City. As visitors would enter the Donnell Library an elevator would take you to the second floor. There were no stairs that accessed the second floor to the public(if there were I never heard about them). This was the magical element of the room. It was secretly hidden on the second floor. Visitors got a special feeling when they walked off the elevator. Winnie the Pooh and friends were waiting to meet visitors and visitors could sign their guest book. The most special part was the fact that visitors were surrounded by children's books. In addition, famous authors and children's performances were held in this great room. Even trained therapy dogs visited to read with children. This was a special room for children that New York Public will never be able to rebuild. For those that had the pleasure of experiencing this great place in the world of children's literature I am sure they will agreed that this is a major loss.GOODBYE DONNELL LIBRARY!
